The Inland Empire
California energy demands outpace supplies during more than 100 peak-demand hours a year. Peak-demand becomes even more critical in air-conditioning dependent Southern California, especially in it’s Inland Empire desert areas where the population is booming with 42 new residents moving to the Coachella Valley every day. Here, energy demands are the greatest during summer months when air-conditioning units hum around the clock and the rest of the state’s electrical grid is most vulnerable to failure.
The Desert Water Agency Installation
SoCal Solar Energy, Inc. has installed the largest photovoltaic solar energy plant in the Coachella Valley. The water agency, serving all of Palm Springs in it’s 325-mile service area, was formed in 1961. The new installation will reduce rate-payer operating costs and will set an example for other energy users in the Coachella Valley’s public and private sector.
